Pre-Race Week (Weekly Recap)

 It was pre-race week so I ran less, didn’t go to the gym and organized myself for going to Washington DC for the North Face Endurance Challenge Series 50k.

I am now back in Toronto and the race recap is coming soon! But if you can’t wait, the short version is that I had a great time but it was the muddiest race that I’ve never done. I just finished washing some of the mud off my trail shoes!

I had a longish run on Tuesday (15k) and I had planned to do it after work. When I got home, it was cold but at least it was still sunny. I asked Callum if he wanted to run with me and he actually agreed! We had some errands to do so we decided to end our run with those and then Car2Go home. The plan was super efficient and I even talked him into stopping at Cobs Bakery and getting scones (who would say no to that!) which was a great end to the outing.


On Wednesday, I went to yin yoga because I had a lot of time with not running and I thought it would be good to stretch out before running 50k. It was great and reminded me that I should be going every week so that I don’t get so stiff. I’m definitely adding that to the May goals!

I ran again on Thursday morning (10k) before my plane to DC and then had a leisurely morning because our plane wasn’t until 1pm. It was really nice to have a 3 day work week, I think going back to working 5 days this week is going to be tough.

I got into DC (really Virginia, I don’t think we ever even crossed any state lines) on Thursday afternoon. We ended up going to pick up my bib that night and wandered around the mall that the North Face store was in. For an update on the rest of my trip, you’ll have to wait for the race report! 
I was worried that I would be really sore when I woke up this morning (Sunday) but I’m feeling pretty good. I took an epsom salt bath this afternoon and foam rolled. I’m planning on stretching and more foam rolling later. I have also managed to walk almost 8,000 steps today which I think will help with making sure my legs don’t get too stiff.

    Congratulations!
    Eating to my heart’s content after a long season ending in a race is usually the plan but I would not suggest that in your case, lol.

    Compression socks. For some reason I’ve gravitated to a Dr Pepper and Fritos immediately after. A few hours later it’s beer and a burger! But I recently became a fan of Epsom salt baths – my son is actually the impetus for that; he requests the salt for a post-lacrosse game soak.
