My Training Week

IMG_2149It’s been a busy week! After a two week break from work for the holidays, it was time to go back on Monday. Since I got back from North Carolina late on Saturday night, I wasn’t very organized on Monday and the whole week felt pretty hectic.

IMG_2141My run on Tuesday was great and Callum came with me which is always nice.

On Wednesday, I left my house around 4pm to go for my run and it was 3C outside so I dressed for that weather. I didn’t realize how much the temperature would drop when it got dark outside and by 6km, I was cold. By 8km, I was really really cold. And by 11km, my hands were mostly numb. By the time I got home, I was painfully cold and even being inside really hurt my hands.

After my terribly cold run on Wednesday, I went on Thursday to buy new running mittens at the Running Room. I got these (RR Adventure 100 mittens). Right after I got them, it warmed up and hasn’t been cold enough to use them yet but I have high hopes of warm hands!

IMG_2155Friday I had a beautiful run along Cherry Beach during my lunch break. I bundled up a little too much for the weather after being so cold on Wednesday but overall, it was a great way to spend my lunch break.

The Night Terrors Run Crew was hosting a trail run around an hour outside of Toronto on Saturday so a few of us from my running group decided to go. It was way more of an adventure and less of a run than I was expecting. It’s going to get it’s own post soon, watch for it!

IMG_2174This morning I woke up an hour before my alarm and decided I might as well get my run in since I was up. I got all dressed and then finally looked outside to realize that it was pouring rain. The run had to get done so out I went. It turns out that at 7am on a Sunday morning in the pouring rain, there’s no one else outside. I ran by the beach and there was something so peaceful about the rain with the waves crashing and no other sounds around. Besides, that the run was as you might assume a run in the dark freezing rain to be, not a lot of fun. But it got done!

My training week recap:
Monday – rest
Tuesday – 8km
Wednesday – 14km + yin yoga
Thursday – rest
Friday – 10km + 45min bootcamp
Saturday – NTRC Bruce Trail run (~14km)
Sunday – 10km + 45min bootcamp

How was your week? Have you ever paid for dressing inappropriately for the weather?

Happy running!

Great work! For some reason my ears hurt really bad when the cold wind gets in them! I’ve started listening to music with my ear buds in and also layering an ear warmer headband on. Works great!

That sounds like a great solution! That used to happen to me too. When it’s really cold, I wear a ear warmer headband and a hat to keep them really warm 🙂

But let’s be honest, I will usually choose the treadmill if it’s really cold 🙂
